General notes
A familiar character in Accrington at one time. The only name he was known by was "Piggy". Rather mysterious and in offensive, he was rarely seen in conversation and was of a quiet nature. The photo shows him in a characteristic attitude of sleeping near the Whinney Hill viaduct. Sleeping out of doors was to him natural and was often seen asleep reared against the Market Hall. On one occasion he was found fast asleep on a plank in the fields at Laneside with snow on the ground at the time. He complained when he was taken to Preston Gaol for sleeping out, that it was draughty in prison. He died at Moorlands workhouse.
