General notes
Two iconic public houses for many years, on St. James's St., right in the centre of Burnley. The Swan was a posting house for coaches and is still a pub. The original 18th Century Old Red Lion was demolished in 1865 by the council with the site ear-marked for a new town hall, however this plan was abandoned and the existing Old Red Lion building was constructed in 1868 when Manchester Road was widened. The building is now in commercial use.
Pub, Inn, Tavern, Hotel, Beer, Daniel Thwaites, cobbled street, tram lines.
