Perhaps a field day or carnival, with iice cream and flagons of pop being sold from carts, swings in the background. There are several newspaper reports of balloons featuring at such occasions in the early 1900s but the image is undated. In the Burnley Express's Old Burnley souvenir of June 1967, the image is said to be taken from near Kiddrow Lane, looking over the Palace House Estate but does not tell us exactly where.
