This is a copy (unknown date) of a 1834 drawing by Thomas Allom. It shows mule spinning at Swainson, Birley and Co Cotton Mill in Fishwick Preston. This image has been reprinted many times in books on the cotton industry.

There are three mill workers in the picture a man on the left, a woman on the right with a man sweeping the floor under the mule on the right. In the original drawing it is clearer that it is an adult under the mule than it is in this copy.
