Burnley News 1/8/14 p 5, reported that the Annual inspection took place Saturday 25th July 1914 at Stoneyholme Council Schools. "34 ladies under Lady Superintendent Simpson were inspected by Dr. Pym of Barrowford the Superintendent for No. 4 District. .. ..in triangular and roller bandaging, hand-seat drill and foot drill. Nursing sister Mackenzie was examined with a view to promotion to the rank of officer." The non uniformed man in the photo is presumably Dr. Pym? "53 men were inspected by Dr. Pym of Barrowford the Superintendent for No. 4 District. .. ..in triangular and roller bandaging, foot drill. Fireman's life and stretcher drill" (image 275694). "The work is entirely voluntary and deals with two or three hundred cases in a year, and handles each year some £200" The location, Stoneyholme School, was originally Burnley Lane Ebenezer Baptist School, Colne Rd.
