As illustrated and described in detail in Burnley Express 24.12.1925, a new operating block at the Victoria Hospital was about to be opened comprising the latest in modern science - "two operation rooms; sterilising and wash up; anaesthetising, crystoscopy, plaster and splints" due to the generosity of the late Caleb Thornber and the Whitham family with mirror image operating theatres named after each benefactor.
