General notes
Newspaper clipping December 1982. £20k spent (funded by Hyndburn council) on a new wooden roof at Mercer Street baths to enable a maintenance free future. Baths manager Mr Harold Leach said "The wood has been specially treated and insulated and should be maintenance free, and by lowering the ceiling we should also lower the cost of heating the pool considerably". it was hoped the baths would reopen by February 1983.
The baths were converted from the former public hall donated to the town, and the tresses and beams in the roof are original. The first ceiling was made of aluminium but over the years this began to powder and although not unsafe, repairs were needed.
