At the age of 85, Dame Thora Hird is a theatrical legend. Born in Morecambe, she's been acting professionally for 65 years. At an age when normal folk have long passed their sell - by date Thora scooped a BAFTA award. She has undergone several hip replacement operations, open heart surgery and in 1994 lost the love of her life - husband Scottie. Tonight and tomorrow we publish extracts from the second volume of her autobiography published this month.
