The photo shows the front of the building and adjacent shops etc. The hotel stands on the east side of Castle Street, was an important coaching inn in its early years, the Riot Act had to be read from its steps during the late 19th century Cotton Riots and important deals regarding development of Sir Frank Whittle's jet engine were agreed there during WW2.
