General notes
The Carnegie Library was opened in 1905 after a generous donation from Andrew Carnegie, the Scottish-born steel magnate in the USA. He donated £3000 in 1903, a significant sum. The library was extensively redesigned and extended in 1990. To commemorate the millennium, two stained glass windows depicting the history of the town were designed by pupils of the town's two secondary schools and installed in the main ground floor windows.
