This is a copy (unknown date) of a 1834 drawing by Thomas Allom. It shows mule spinning at Swainson, Birley and Co Cotton Mill in Fishwick Preston. This image has been reprinted many times in books on the cotton industry.

There are four mill workers in the picture a man on the left, someone in the background, a woman on the right with a man sweeping the floor under the mule on the right. In the original drawing rather than this copy it is clearer that it is one man under the mule.
