The Gas Works were established here in 1836, and were transferred to the Corporation in 1874. It ceased work and was demolished in 1968.

User comments: 'The website claims it was demolished in 1968, but I would suggest that 1988 is the correct date: I have photos that my father took in 1987 of the gasometer before it was taken down.' 19/10/2023.
