In 2010, during the preparations for the regeneration of Lancaster Library, a Victorian photograph album was uncovered in the attic at the library. On the cover, embossed in gold are the words 'Aunt Lizzie'.The album was almost completely full comprising 130 photographs, predominantly portraits with a few postcards and pressed flowers. There was no indication as to who Aunt Lizzie was and very limited information on the photographs themselves. In 2011, Lancaster Community History Library enlisted the help of Jean Wetter, Mavis Long, & Pat Harrison, members of the Lancaster family history Group. Over the next six months they undertook extensive local and family history research on the contents of the album and were able to identify almost all the people portray there and their relationships. 'Aunt Lizzie' was evidently related to and connected to the 'high society' of Lancaster. Included in the album are national and local dignitaries. There is a very rare portrait of the family of James Williamson, Lord Ashton, the richest and most powerful industrialist of Lancaster and the City's main benefactor of the time.
