This photograph shows a view of Nelson from near Raven's Clough, Old Laund Booth and was taken before the M65 motorway changed the landscape of the valley of the Pendle Water. Green fields surround Ecroyd's Mill at Lomeshaye and partly hidden by the trees in the centre foreground is the old sewage treatment works. Now the whole area is covered by the Lomeshaye Industrial Estate and the river has been diverted. Note the number of mill chimneys visible in Nelson and the tower of the Arndale Centre, now the Pendle Rise Shopping Centre, (pale blue in the centre of the photograph). This dates the photograph to sometime between 1967 (opening of the Arndale Centre) and 1978 (beginning of the construction of the M65 motorway).
