General notes
One of a number of large machines commemorating Darwen's Victorian heritage. This is a cross compound mill engine dating from the 1850's. It was installed at this site in 1970. India Mill chimney is 300 feet tall and was completed in 1867. The grade II* listed chimney is built in a distinctive Italianite style resembling a campanile.
