General notes
The village was a minor centre for handloom weaving, but the industrialisation of the trade in the early 19th century led to a decline. There were plans in the late 19th century to flood the valley for a reservoir, but these never came to fruition. In the distance beyond the picnickers can be seen the clapper bridge.
