General notes

Walverden Reservoir was built in 1869, to provide water for the expanding town of Nelson. Within 10 years it proved insufficient for the towns needs and a new reservoir was built at Coldwell. In the centre of the photograph is Thaw House. The line of houses on the hill behind Thaw House marks the line of Barkerhouse Road.
