General notes
James Nelson's Sports Club was built as a memorial to those killed in World War One. The Nelson family owned Valley Mills on Southfield Street. The club had cricket and football pitches, and tennis courts; indoors were snooker tables and darts boards. After closure it became derelict and was demolished in 2008. The land has now been used for housing.
