General notes

The roofs in the foreground are of shops on Leeds Road. Behind them can be seen the roof of the Salem Independent Methodist Chapel. Work on the building, which replaced an earlier chapel, commenced in 1891, and the opening service was held on April 22nd 1893. After almost 100 years service the chapel closed in 1985, the congregation merging with the Bradshaw Street chapel. The building was then demolished as part of the redevelopment of the town centre.
