General notes
Land for recreation grounds was purchased by Nelson Local Board from Mr Every-Clayton in 1886. Of the total of 20 acres, 8 acres were set aside for 'free access' and became Victoria Park. Ten years later a further area on the western side of Pendle Water was purchased, followed a year later by the purchase of a third area which was to be converted to a boating lake. The photograph is taken showing part of the original park area. Through the trees can be seen the bridge carrying Carr Road over Pendle Water.
