General notes
Standen Hall is a Grade II listed building which was the 18th century seat of John Aspinall, a gentleman barrister. Rebuilt in 1757 with the west wing rebuilt in 1858. Its 3000 acre estate remains in the Aspinall family to this day. In 2017 planning permission was granted to modernise the Grade II listed Hall which had not been renovated since the First World War. The Borough Council has granted permission, in principle, for the building of 1040 houses over a 15 year period from 2019 on a 123 acre site of their land extending Clitheroe town southwards to the bank of trees immediately north of the Hall.
