West Bradford in the 2011 census had a population of 788 and covers about 200 acres in the Forest of Bowland. It's name is thought to derive from the fact it was a 'Broad Ford' across the River Ribble. It was called West Bradford in the nineteenth century on the introduction of the Postal Service to differentiate it from its much bigger neighbour of Bradford about 27 miles to the East.
