General notes
The word Walloper means 'fresh bubbling spring' and water fresh from the moor flows into stone troughs. Situated high up near the summit of Waddington fell, on the Newton side, meant it must have been used by farmers, hunters, pedlars and lead miners from the nearby workings to meet and refresh themselves after the long ascent either from Waddington or Newton. The trough was vandalised in 1974 and renewed. A constant flow of fresh water continues from the moor.
