This photograph shows the junction of Rossendale Road, and Accrington Road, near Rosegrove Railway Station with work being carried out on Rossendale Rd. the Burnley Arterial Road number 5.

Despite being a major junction since the 18th century, the development of houses and business didn't start to occur here until the early 20th century, thanks to the expansion of Rosegrove's railway yard and the transformation of Back Lane into Rossendale Road, which was part of a wider arterial road network.
