Lowerfold Park was opened on 27th June 1914 when three members of the Congregational Church donated some land. A pavilion was built, as well as five tennis courts, a croquet lawn, rose garden and children's playground. The park became the centre of social life for Congregationalists for more than thirty years before it was bought by the Urban District Council and renamed Lowerfold Park..
