General notes

Greenside is a lane facing the River Ribble between the Blackburn Road and Water Street. These cottages can still be seen.
At the time of these photographs Ribchester was comparatively isolated apart from visitors to the Roman remains. The population was around 6,000 with small manufacturing in bobbin turning, cotton weaving and quarrying. Agriculture was and is almost entirely pasture-based.
