This photograph takes in, in a single glance, the range of popular pastimes to be enjoyed in Brungerley on a Sunday afternoon at the turn of the 20th Century. The size of the river bank available for recreation can be seen by referring to the bridge in the background, some distance away.
Local people in their 'Sunday Best' promenaded on the footpaths, there were swings for children and a wide range of boats available for hire (stored in the wooden boat sheds in the middle ground).
