Title
Bolton-by-Bowland: The "Coffee Tavern"
General notes
The image shows a shop-cum-residence. (A child is looking out of one of the upper floor windows.) The shop sign shows that “E & C Leslie” were purveyors of coffee, confectionary and cigars, among other things. Through the window to the right of the shop door one can perceive what looks like shelves of merchandise.
Just in front of the building lie the old Market Cross, whose (now broken) shaft is believed to be from the 13th Century, and the remains of the Stocks.
A man in uniform is standing on the road to the right of the image.
