General notes
This is a copy of the image of the Reputed Gravestone of Abbott Paslew, now in Whalley Parish Church. The Paslew Tomb stone is against the north wall of the aisle just outside the chapel. The stone is a memorial to a priest but it is damaged so the name that was on it can not be read to confirm whether or not it is Abbot Paslew's. Abbot John Paslew was the last abbot of Whalley Abbey. He was executed in 1537 after refusing to take the oath of supremacy which involved swearing allegiance to the monarch (Henry VIII) as Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
