General notes
Waddington is a village 2 miles n.w. of Clitheroe. The Old Hall is in the centre of the village.
The greater part of the medieval building is still in existence. It was here where King Henry VI took refuge after the great battle of Hexham in 1464.
The hidden staircase, hidden behind panelling, leads from the Great Hall to the large upstairs room. A modern carved cupboard shows the pictures of the Kings attempted escape, up the staircase to his bed chamber, down a ladder to the ground and across the fields to Brungerley, where he was captured when crossing the river by the Hipping Stones.
