General notes
During World War I, Bank Hall was converted for use as a military hospital. Housed in its wards were a number of wounded Belgian soldiers, pictured here at Christmas. On Christmas morning the Belgians awoke to a splendid surprise, provided by their British hosts. Each man was given a stocking filled with 'all sorts of good things'. They were also given a Turkey Christmas dinner, followed by Christmas pudding. After their lunch, St. Catherine's Church adult choir performed for them followed by a rendition of their national anthem, all of which was very much appreciated.
