Whalley Road looking up from junction at Milnshaw Lane.
We believe the young man in the centre of the picture to be James Duckworth, going back to work eating an apple after lunch(or ''dinner'') at home in nearby Garden Street. He was an office boy at Howard and Bullough textile machinery manufacturers (later Platts) at that time, and later rose to become a production manager retiring at aged 70 in 1962-3. In this photo he is about 17 years old.
