General notes
Cannon Street was located in the area of Burnley that was known as Wapping. In 1800 there were 35 properties on the street and many of these were taverns and 'tippling shops', set up to provide a place of relaxation for the local mill workers.

One such tavern was the Black Dog Inn, which can be seen here on the left. The inn was located where the Cannon Street was intersected by Water Street. It was probably built sometime in the late 1700's, and it survived there until c1902.

Some of the street was demolished as part of a slum clearance programme in 1897, and the final buildings were removed to make way for the new Charter Walk development in the 1960's.
