This photograph was taken looking down Red Lion Street towards the electricity works on Aqueduct Street. It is possible to ascertain the reason why the photograph was being taken if one looks closely at the tall chimney in the centre. Two thirds of the way up one can make out a daring steeplejack carrying out repairs.

Two decades later this scene looked very different. The houses on the left and the right hand side of the street were demolished in the 1960's as part of the town centre development programme and the electricity works were demolished in the 1970's.
