General notes
A station was constructed at Rosegrove by the East Lancashire Railway Company in 1848. Over the next 100 years the station grew and sidings were added due to its strategic location, close to Gannow junction. At its height the goods yard had a capacity for over 1,000 goods wagons. An engine shed was also built, which housed up to 50 steam locomotives until its demolition in 1968.
This marked the start of the decline of the station and its goods yards. Here it can be seen in around 1975, with a diesel engine shunting some coal wagons. By the time the M65 was completed in the 1980's, the station infrastructure, apart from one long platform had been demolished.
