This photo is of the road widening of Ormskirk Road at Tawd Bridge just west of Spencers Lane. The end building top right is the Tawd Bridge Pub. The road widening took a part of fields belonging to Edward Heyes who farmed at Whiteledge Farm. The horse shown drawing the spoil trucks also belonged to Edward and probably one of his sons ( most likely James but could have been Jack) is in charge of the horse. The embankment created by the widening was retained by a substantial stone wall.
This image was kindly donated by the grandson of John Tennant who was the general foreman for Upholland Council. John is supervising the works in this picture.
