General notes

George Henry Wagner (left) was born in Germany in 1838. He came over to Britain in the mid 1800's and lived in Bradford for a time before moving to Burnley and setting up this pork butcher's shop at 13 Briercliffe Road in c1887. He worked there with his son Ernest Albert (right), who later opened his own shop on Abel Street. When George died in 1903 the business passed in to the hands of a fellow German family, the Langs.

It is possible that George was related to the Wagner family in Padiham, who were also pork butchers.
