General notes
Keighley Green was originally built as a Methodist chapel in 1788. By 1841 services were being transferred to the new chapel on Hargreaves Street and it was decided that Keighley Green should be sold. However, one of the conditions of sale was that it should only be sold to someone who wished to use it for religious purposes. By 1851, this clause must have been rescinded as it then became the police station and court house (pictured here). These facilities moved to the town hall in 1890 and the 'Burnley Lads Club' took over the property. It had a number of other owners during its life time and was demolished in 1975.
