General notes
Opened in 1912, Ightenhill Park was built on land donated to Burnley Corporation by the Shuttleworth family of Gawthorpe in 1908. It Originally only comprised of the section of land located to south of Ightenhill Park Road. Later that year the bowling greens were added and in the 1920's the tennis courts also came under the control of the Corporation.
This particular photograph shows the park shortly after opening. In the distance one can make out the now demolished shelter. To the right of this are houses on Southern Avenue (Ochills).
