General notes

This photograph shows Whittlefield Shed in, what was at the time, Whittlefield Action Area. The Action Area intended to improve housing and living conditions for local people. Some of the area was also due to be demolished to make way for the motorway.

The Shed was spared demolition, as the council thought that it was a useful source of local jobs and had the potential to provide a space for new industry. However, Spa Mill (right hand side) was demolished and the land vacated by it was used to build some new homes.
