General notes
The Roll of Honour has the following heading, "The Great War 1914-1919. The following teachers past and present and old scholars took part in the above for justice truth and liberty".

At the bottom of the memorial is the following inscription, "The memorial was given by scholars past and present, teachers past and present and friends of the school to shew (sic) their grateful appreciation of the efforts made by the old scholars in the Great War. G Rymer-Roberts, FRGS, Headmaster."

"Whilst some memorials are carved in stone and others cast in bronze the Bowerham School memorial is formed of an oak frame, the work of James Hatch & Sons of Lancaster, designed by Robert H Calvert in the form of a Greek temple containing five panels.
The centre panel represents the world emerging from dark storm clouds into the perfect day. Standing in triumph upon the world is a figure of Liberty holding aloft the light of civilisation. At her feet sit Justice and Truth, the foundations of all true liberty. The other panels show Hope touching Grief on the shoulder bidding her to look up to a brighter future and on the right, Britannia armed, directing Fame's attention to the names inscribed on the roll."
