"The present baths in Cable Street were presented to the town in 1863 by Samuel Gregson, at that time a member for the borough; he died in 1865. The baths were enlarged in 1894."

The inscription reads, "To the inhabitants of his native town. Presented by Samuiel Gregson, MP for Lancaster, 1863"
