Hurstwood Reservoir, completed in 1923, has a capacity of 301 million gallons. This photograph of the construction phase was taken by Walter Baldwin, who was Burnley's deputy-chief water engineer at the time. It shows one of the valves that were used to release water from the reservoir to the town.
