General notes
A horse drawn Shand and Mason steam fire engine being paraded by the fire service in the 1920's. By this time the technology being used by the brigade was becoming out-of-date and was in need of replacement.

From left to right, the gentlemen in the photograph are Jack Taylor, Inspector Kay, Alderman Heaton, Mr T. Whitfield and Mr S. Eddleston.

The fire station was built on this site c1854 and had many renovations made to it over the next century in order to accommodate the advances in technology. In the mid-1960's it was decided that a new facility was required and the fire service relocated to a new station on Belvedere Road.
