The township of Briercliffe was located in the Clitheroe parliamentary division. Most of its residents were employed in the cotton industry, working in one of the local mills. This photograph was taken looking down towards Burnley. The row of shops on the left contains a branch of the Burnley Co-operative, that set up business there c1890.
