General notes
The construction of Queen's Park commenced in 1891. It was built on land donated by Sir John Hardy Thursby. During the two year construction process, 27,500 trees and shrubs were planted. A number of features were added to the park. These included a bowling green, a putting green, tennis courts and a bandstand.

This photograph shows the park lodge, which was built next to the main entrance on Ormerod Road and the. However, this section of the park became separated from the main body of the park during the construction of an arterial road in 1928. This upheaval also led to the monument (seen here through the gates) being moved to the main section of the park.
