Booster pump stations were designed to boost the pressure of water within long pipelines.

This one on Manchester Road was constructed by Burnley Corporation in 1932. However, by 1965 it had become redundant thanks to the construction of Howarth Fold Service Reservoir and was duly decommissioned and demolished.
