A Dennis F12 pump escape (left) and a Leyland Comet (right), pulling out of the old fire station on Manchester Road. The Dennis was nicknamed 'Tinkerbell'.

The fire station was built on this site c1854 and had many renovations made to it over the next century in order to accommodate the advances in technology. In the mid-1960's it was decided that a new facility was required and the fire service relocated to a new station on Belvedere Road.
