General notes
Thomas was born in London in 1879. He trained as a clergyman before moving to Burnley where he became the curate at St. Andrew's Church. During World War One, Thomas enlisted as an army officer. Unfortunately, little more is known about him.
Another source suggests that he may have been born in Wales, but he lived in Burnley Workhouse from the age of 9 months, as his mother worked there. After her death he was adopted and put through university (which may have been in London).
