This view was taken looking down Church Street towards the town centre, from outside the Sparrowhawk Hotel. On the right, workmen are in process of demolished R. Lund's grocery shop. Trams stopped running on the streets of Burnley in 1935 and although the tracks remain the overhead wires have been removed.

The scene changed considerably over the next few decades, with the majority of buildings being demolished to make way for new developments, such as the new Zion Chapel.
